No matter what diet you follow, be it vegan to paleo, nutrition is key!
When starting your fitness journey the first, and best, thing you can do for your body is ensure you have a good intake of wholesome nutritious foods. Being healthier is all about having a balanced diet. This means not cutting out food groups like fats or sugars completely and certainly not cutting out an energy source like carbohydrates.
Although it is deemed that carbohydrates are the enemy and fats and sugars are the cause of obesity, the truth is it is not quite that simple. The cause of obesity is eating these foods in the wrong balance. This could simply be having portion sizes that are too large or intaking too much added sugar.
For example, the recommended sugar intake for an adult, according to the NHS is 7 teaspoons or 30g per day. Therefore it may shock you that one can of Coca-Cola has a staggering 39g.
As for carbohydrates, these are a great source of energy for the body. However, they should be consumed in moderation as excess carbs (energy) that isn’t used will be stored as fat.
Eating wholesome foods will also give you more energy and not leave you feeling as lethargic. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will ensure you consume plenty of micro nutrients, which include the vitamins and minerals needed for healthy growth.
